Radio distribution by Mudgegonga Landcare Group

22 Mar 2010

The Mudgegonga Landcare Group has been fortunate to receive funding from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal for the establishment of an emergency communication network for Mudgegonga and Barwidgee using UHF radios. The radio network is intended to be used to improve communication between residents and emergency services and operate independently of power, land lines and mobile phones.

The grant has enabled us to purchase a UHF radio for every residence in the district to be provided on a loan basis to everyone who wishes to be included.  Letters to residents have been distributed which outline how the system is to operate.  Radios have been purchased and will be available for distribution at the hall between 4-7pm on Mon 22 March. Training will be provided for residents to operate the system which will be organized through a series of ‘hubs’.
