2nd Plant propagation workshop

10 Oct 2009

TIME: From 10 am until 4 pm; lunch and morning tea provided

WHERE: Mudgegonga Hall

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING: wear comfortable, warm clothes and bring secateurs if you have them, otherwise they can be provided. We will talk about maintenance/sharpening.

WHY: this is one way that Mudgegonga residents can begin to replace gardens and plants lost in the fires. Plants are costly and propagating your own is a wonderful skill to learn and apply again further down the track. It will also be enjoyable.

WHAT WILL BE COVERED: the basics of plant propagation (including seeds, cuttings, grafting); which plants when and why; seasons/time of year; type of cuttings; continued care/ monitoring.

We will also be potting on the material we propagated earlier this year in the June workshop so please feel free to return to learn more and help with that.

It is hoped that this course will engage some participants who may then want to continue in other aspects of horticulture. There are opportunities for some fully funded places at Wodonga TAFE which we can discuss further on the day.

As you may know already, Wodonga TAFE has made some space available in the campus hot houses where your plants are currently being cared for and monitored. Some participants from the June workshop have been into Wodonga checking on the growth of their plant material - that sort of interest in the project is wonderful. Those plants which are considered ready will be brought back for potting on and dividing up in this workshop. They can then either go back to Wodonga for further care and growth or some may be ready to find homes in your garden. Those not yet ready will be distributed later this year or next year ready for autumn planting.

RSVP: Jenny 5728 6603, Carol 5753 4468, Barbara 5752 2051- please we need to know numbers.
